...Mauritius Photos...
Wednesday 24th May 2006 – Tammay and I travel to Mauritius for Gavin & Ingrid's Wedding. We met up with Gavin, Ingrid, Francois, Ruth, Pam and Brian at Heathrow and travelled out together. We all arrived in Mauritius at lunch time the following day and were met by Ingrid's family at the airport. We travelled to Ingrid's grandmother's house for a lovely lunch and were then given a lift to our hotel - The Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa. Tammay and I spent the next few days relaxing around the hotel, making full use of the watersports!
Our beach
The hotel was located right on the beach... Golden sand and clear blue sea.
Mauritius
The weather while we were there was great. We had been told that the East side of the island was quite windy at this time of the year so we decided to stay at the Hilton on the West side.
Passing boat
Mauritius
There was a coral reef about 200metres off the shore so the waves broke long before the beach.

They had even filled the basin with flowers.
Our balcony
We also had a balcony overlooking the sea. We were facing West so we could see the sunset.

Saturday the 27th of May. Gavin and Ingrid's wedding at Le Saint Geran Resort. We decided to get a taxi to the wedding and our driver ended up waiting outside the hotel all day until we were ready to make the return journey.
Wake boarding
Our stay at the hotel included all water sports so I was keen to have another go at wake boarding. I had tried it once before in Thailand but never really got very far. I thought I knew what I was doing wrong and would be able to do better...
Wake boarding
... I was wrong. I didn't manage to stand up!
Water Skiing
I instead had a go at water skiing.
Water Skiing
I hadn't tried this before and the first few attempts were not very graceful!
Sunset on the beach
At sunset you would have about ten minutes of nice light before the sun had gone.

Water skiing
The following day I decided to have another go at water skiing. Despite being free, there didn't seem to be very many people interested. Luck for me it meant I didn't have to queue.
Water skiing
Trying my best to stay upright in the water while the boat passed by.
Water skiing
After a bit of advice I was able to get to my feet.
Water skiing
Although I may have lacked style, it was progress none the less!

Tammay and I also had a go at wind surfing. After a 30 minute lesson we were set loose! Things were not too bad and we managed to move up and down the water front along the beach. Tammay slowly moved further and further from the water line as the wind became move off-shore. In the end I found it very difficult to make any progress towards the shore. By this point Tammay was quite a distance from the shore and decided to give up and sit down on her board. The hotel staff spotted her and soon came out to pick her up in the boat. Given the possibility of a free ride home I made a bee-line for Tammay and lost all ground I had made in the last 20 minutes. Unfortunately the staff didn't realise I also wanted a lift so never returned for me. After a further 20 minutes struggling to reach the shore (and trying not to get sun-burnt) the finally got my free ride home.

This was a view down the coast. The lights from the beach were bright enough to light up the distant mountain and the low cloud layer.

Tuesday 30th of May – Tammay and I took a 16:35 flight from Mauritius to Johannesburg for our safari holiday.
